Industrial Visit to Gulf Craft

17 Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students toured Gulf Craft’s yacht factory in Umm Al Quwain to see how engineering comes together in building luxury yachts.

  • Gulf Craft Factory, Umm Al Quwain

Ajman University organised an industrial visit to Gulf Craft, one of the UAE’s leading yacht and boat manufacturers, for 17 engineering students: 10 from Electrical Engineering and 7 from Mechanical Engineering. The group was accompanied by their faculty coordinator, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Memon.

Founded in 1982, Gulf Craft builds luxury yachts, superyachts and leisure boats. At its Umm Al Quwain facility, students saw how yachts move from design and material selection through hull construction, assembly, installation and finishing, and how quality control and workplace safety shape each stage.

What students explored

  • Mechanical: marine engines and propulsion; hull construction and structural engineering; pumps, piping, cooling and ventilation; fabrication and materials.
  • Electrical: power generation and distribution; control panels and protection; marine wiring; lighting and navigation; sensors, monitoring and automation.
  • Production and safety: manufacturing stages, inspection and testing, preventive maintenance, and safe handling of machinery and electrical systems.

Bringing both disciplines together showed students how closely electrical and mechanical engineering depend on each other in modern marine vessels, and gave them a first look at careers in marine engineering and manufacturing.

We thank the management and technical staff of Gulf Craft for hosting the visit.
