An orientation for new ECE students, with welcomes from the Dean and the Head of Department, a look at the faculty and career paths, the IEEE Student Branch’s new cabinet, and a live quiz.
ECE Experience Day welcomed new Electrical and Computer Engineering students to the department on 6 October 2026, hosted by the IEEE Student Branch.
The afternoon opened with a word from Prof. Omar Ghrayeb, Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, followed by Dr. Hasan Zidan, Head of the ECE Department, who introduced the department’s faculty and lab engineers and walked students through the four directions an ECE degree opens: Power and Energy, Electronics and Embedded Systems, Communications and Networks, and Software and AI.
The branch then presented its record: 31 awards since 2023, awards at 20 of 31 competitions, and growth from around 16 members to about 60. We thanked the 2025/26 cabinet for their contribution and introduced the 2026/27 cabinet, with Prof. Hamdy Hamed as Branch Counselor and Eng. Wessam Shehieb and Eng. Peter Yacoub as mentors:
- Duha Tagelsir, Chair
- Yousef Melhem, Vice Chair
- Samia Bayoumi, Secretary
- Jon Regala, Treasurer
- Nadine Fayad, Events Coordinator
- Judy Kabalan, Media Coordinator
- Ghaith AlHallak, Web Architect
Students closed the day with Find Your Match, a live phone quiz on ECE terms with streak and speed bonuses, a live top-ten leaderboard on the big screen and a podium at the end, followed by a group photo.
