About this competition

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) runs an annual hackathon as part of World Engineering Day. The 2027 theme is “Engineering Sustainable Transport Solutions for People, Planet and Prosperity”, supporting UN SDGs 3, 7, 9 and 11 and the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035.

Challenges are released on 20 November 2026. Teams then have about three weeks to develop a solution and submit a 5-minute video, a team photo and a written submission in English. Entries are judged on problem definition, innovation and technical merit, impact and scalability, inclusion and sustainability, and presentation.

Winners are announced in Rome on 4 March 2027. Registration is free.
